The 2012 Run for the Kids was held on Saturday, May 5, 2012.  This 5K and 10K event was run in the heart of Downtown Lee’s Summit on a challenging but fun course.  The race benefited the students of Lee’s Summit Elementary, the most economically challenged student population in the community. The proceeds during the 9 year history of the race have allowed The Summit Church to contribute over $100,000 to the school.  The money is used by the Family Care Committee to provide financial assistance to students and their families for food, utilities, housing and medical care.  Teachers can also apply for funds to help with supplies and educational aids in the classroom that will further the educational opportunities of students.  Removing the financial barriers allows both teachers and students to concentrate on learning without distraction, giving these students the tools they need to have a successful future.
